stage 4 student design brief

Every time it rains water flows over land and roofs, through creeks, rivers and stormwater systems into oceans. Water is essential for all aspects of our lives. We use water every day for a range of purposes.

Humans manage the capture and use of water to meet our needs before it returns to the cycle. This is called the “managed water cycle”.

It is important that we manage this cycle wisely to ensure that there is enough water to meet our needs and the needs of the environment, now and in the future. The sustainable use of water is particularly important as Australia is such a dry continent.

Design task
Design or re-design a system that will improve the management of stormwater or rainwater in the school or in the local community, contributing to a more sustainable future.

Design solution
The solution will be in the form of a proposal including drawings, photos, sample materials and/or a multimedia presentation. Models may be produced as a means of communicating details of the solution but are not essential. The proposal must include:

  • information about the existing situation
  • the identified water use issue
  • details of the design solution including images of what the solution will look like.
